The Last 18 months has been an extraordinary journey in the Construction Industry as a whole. COVID-19 arrival in the UK meant that companies had to think on their feet, without support and with speed to ensure the safety of their workers. Toon Materials was no different and we had to make sure we sourced the correct masks and sanitary gel for our staff to allow them to continue working safely on site from their lorries. Putting in place new policies to eradicate contact between drivers and site personnel was of paramount ensuring the 2 meter rule. Informing Clients as soon as was possible that signatures would not be obtained; names only taken safeguarded our drivers from possible infection.

We are pleased to confirm that we knew we could rely in the sensible approach that our drivers would take; each driver calm and professional in everything that they do. Always ensuring that they had enough PPE and kept their lorries clean and free from possible contamination. We cannot thank them enough for the part they play during this ongoing pandemic. We are proud of each of them for the way in which they have conducted themselves at the forefront of our business.

We are pleased to be able to report that all of our clients have also hugely impressed us with their professionalism during negotiations and on site; all of us working towards the same end goal of safety and we thank them hugely for this support.

Every quarry, railhead, muck tip and recycling centre excelled in their new system of working; once again safety was of principal importance. Sensible attitudes and a new normal was formulated between Quarry and Haulier. Patience and a can do attitude really ensured the success of supply chains. Business as usual!

Every year Toon Materials supply many millions of tonnes of aggregates to the construction and sports industries. We deal with over 40 different types of aggregate, which all have a range of different uses.

We source our materials from various, as required. Sourcing them from a range of suppliers enables us to secure the most competitive prices for our clients and it is this, along with our leading and reliable customer experience, ensures that our clients return to us time and time again.

We offer a complete service; from providing initial quotation to placing your order, sourcing the materials, booking deliveries and transporting the materials to wherever you require. We keep customers updated every step of the way so you know what to expect and can plan your project and timelines accordingly.

Sourcing and supplying these aggregates keeps our fleet of lorries busy. But which of our 40+ aggregate types are most commonly requested?

Type 1 Limestone

As a quarried material that has not been used before, it is classed as a primary aggregate. Limestone can be supplied in very vast quantities, making it ideal for projects that require large volumes of sub base aggregate. Type 1 limestone meets the Department of Transport’s Specification for Highway Works, clause 803 (SHW 803). It is considered the benchmark for quality and the most frequently used sub base aggregate beneath highways and construction projects of any size.

20mm Ballast

Toon Materials’ all in ballast is a primary sea dredged aggregate, a blend of 0/4mm sharp sand and <20mm gravel. It is readily available which makes it a cost-effective option for making concrete and as a general drainage fill for construction and sports projects.

6F5 Crushed Concrete

6F5 crushed concrete is a recycled general fill aggregate. It is an ‘as crushed’ product that is most commonly used for capping, laid over terram to raise and level natural ground ready for a Type 1 sub base. We also supply Type 1 crushed concrete, which is graded to the Department of Transport’s Specification for Highway Works.

Building Sand

Toon Materials’ building sand is 0/2mm and suitable for blinding, bedding, general fill and mortar. It is also used as a plastering sand.

If you’re looking for a company to supply your business with aggregates, Toon Materials is a great choice. As a leading aggregates supplier, we are not tied to one aggregate source, so we shop around to find the best prices, enabling you to also benefit from these savings. Couple this with our quick response times and leading customer service, it’s easy to see why we’re such a popular choice.

People away from the construction are unlikely to be familiar with the term muck away.

Basically, the service involves removing vast quantities of waste. The type of waste we are referring to is based in locations such as building or construction sites. The service is often required in the early phases of a project, usually referred to as a the groundworks phase. This is because ground excavation involves the removal of topsoil, vegetation or many other types of material. This process therefore takes place in order to prepare the foundation of the structure(s) or site.

This blog will therefore briefly explain the service and what it consists of.

What classes as muck away?

Muck away waste builds up very easily on construction sites, as a great deal of groundwork is often carried out. These types of waste usually fall under one of the following:

  • Asphalt
  • Metals
  • Rubble
  • Concrete
  • Insulation
  • Bricks
  • Topsoil
  • Cement

What to expect from a muck away job?

A muck away service is pretty self explanatory. A team of removal experts will be able to efficiently and safely remove any non-required waste material for you.

What are the different types of Muck material?

Inert muck

This is classified as a form of waste that has not gone through any chemical or physical changes so much less likely to impact any other matter that it comes into contact with. This includes brick, concrete, hardcore soil, subsoil and much more..

Hazardous muck

This can be classed as waste that has properties which make it potentially harmful to human and environmental health. This kind of muck way can be done for example when clearing a petrol station.

Non-hazardous muck

This may include a collection of various waste products that are regarded as not harmful to the environment or human life. This could basically be anything.

Here at Toon Materials, we provide a comprehensive muck away service. We have everything you need for the safe removal of your construction waste and we will ensure that it’s disposed of in line with all regulations.

We understand that groundwork phases can generate a muck away, so keep your site clear and efficient with our muck away lorry services today. Contact us to find out more.
