Back in February 2021, Toon Materials we were asked to assist a client with emergency works – railway subsidence works. This involved the clearing of all vegetation from the embankment on the Harlington to Luton section of the Thameslink Railway line. The requirement came about following huge rainfall that winter, causing the embankment to subside.

The first part of contract to remove 100 loads of muck away. Toon Materials were then required to obtain a bulky aggregate at a reasonable price that was recycled and pure concrete. Having secured pure concrete 6F2 from a demolition contractor, we were able to supply a product that met specification required.

Once completed, we delivered 2000t of MOT Type 1 into site, helping to reinforce the embankment. All of these works were completed within the necessary timeframe enabling minimal disruption to both the client and its customers.

This was a £9 million project comprising of two luxury retirement home developments, both constructed at the same time for Stepnell Construction on behalf of Baycroft Nursing Homes.

The two sites were very delicate projects, with Toon Materials having to make sure they were very flexible with deliveries, primarily due to the quantity of aggregate deliveries and the tight space around the developments. Both were situated on busy main roads. However the Toon Materials drivers and banksmen worked perfectly together to ensure a smooth outcome for the client.

This is a £2.5m project for 150 new houses on Hitchin Road in Shefford, Bedfordshire. Toon were tasked with removing over 300 loads of subsoil, which we have been able to re process into various grades of topsoil for the local area.

We were appointed as the main suppliers of aggregates for this site since the beginning of the project, which started in February 2021. All of the primary and recycled aggregates supplied to site have been sourced within a 10 mile radius to the project, which is major plus point for Toon Materials, the client and Bovis Homes, helping to lower our carbon footprint.

We were tasked with supplying 2,250 tonnes of a Medium/Fine Sports Sand for the construction of a new pitch and goalkeeper area by the Contractor as well as 400t of Drainage Gravel and the removal of all the Koro and Drainage arisings.

We agreed to supply the Sand within a week (500 t per day) and put our fleet of eight wheeler tippers to work! Once delivered on schedule, we supplied the Drainage Gravel and then removed the Arisings to finish the job.

The pitches still look magnificent, and we have a very happy customer.
